Unearthing Treasures: Y8 Extra English Students Discover the Hidden Gem of The Hunterian Museum!

17th Feb 2025

The visit complemented the topic we have been studying - human anatomy.

The Hunterian houses a collection of human and animal specimens; it is vast, beautifully displayed and extremely educational. There is a healthy balance between real life exhibits (some from the16th century!), description and interactive elements.

Our students explored the museum with curiosity and care. Their conduct was impeccable. Now they are already prepared for the Y9 English text 'Sawbones'. Its author Catherine Johnson took an inspiration for the book from a specimen in the museum. Going further, the students are also well placed to study a GCSE text 'Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde', which was modelled on John Hunter himself.

Who knows, maybe one or two will be inspired to pursue a career in medicine?
