Enthusiastic bunch of wannabe-debaters at The Emmanual Centre in central London for the annual Debate Mate launch ceremony.

It was a show-stopping event and, as always, pupils got to watch a ‘Show Debate’ of top-level debaters, this year on the motion: ‘This House believes pupils should have the right to choose their own school uniform’.

However, this year this was all the more exciting as our very own Diya volunteered herself to be on side Opposition in the Show Debate in front of around 1000 pupils! On top of that, she put herself forward for the skilled role of ‘Summary Speaker’ who, as well as summing up their team’s points and rebutting the other team’s points, has to also respond to the numerous ‘Floor Questions’ from the audience! It’s not for the faint-hearted. 

Diya conducted herself with integrity, intelligence and confidence and the pupils were all hoarse with all the whooping for her team to go on and win! Please congratulate her if you see her.

Debate Mate starts Thursday 14th November at 3-4pm. ALL Y7 - Y10 GCA students are welcome! You don’t need to have come to the launch to still join
