We are proud to announce that Maureen Arhagba, Careers Leader, and Head of Faculty for Work Related Learning at Greig City Academy, has been selected as the UK nominee for the JA Europe Teacher of the Year Award 2024, organised by JA (Junior Achievement) Worldwide. JA Worldwide is a global nonprofit that prepares young people for employment and entrepreneurship through hands-on education in work readiness, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship. Young Enterprise UK, the UK arm of JA Worldwide, nominated candidates from Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Gibraltar, and England for this prestigious award, with the Institute of Leadership adjudicating the selection process. Maureen was chosen to represent the UK for her outstanding contributions to education and her commitment to helping students connect with real-world business experiences through Young Enterprise.

A qualified careers guidance and development professional, Maureen has spent nearly two decades working with Young Enterprise’s Company Programme, guiding students as they take on entrepreneurial challenges, develop leadership skills, and build the confidence to succeed in their future careers.

In addition to her work with Young Enterprise, Maureen has been recognised for her leadership in STEAM education as a Design and Technology teacher, having received awards like the Design Ventura Teacher of the Year, awarded by the Design Museum in 2019, and being named a Stemettes Hero in 2023 for her efforts to inspire underrepresented groups in STEAM fields. Her innovative teaching approach focuses on making learning relevant to students’ lives outside the classroom, and her career-long dedication to fostering student potential has earned her this prestigious nomination.

This nomination reflects Maureen’s commitment to nurturing students’ entrepreneurial spirit and helping them realise their potential. We wish her the best as she continues the application process for this distinguished award.
