Well done, Jessye and Kai - joint winners of the Cowes Week Youth Trophy

3rd Aug 2024

Last year, Christopher-Joel was the inaugural winner of the Cowes Week Youth Trophy - an award which aims to recognise young sailors who have done something notable in the sport in the past year, irrespective of whether they won first place or not.

This year, two GCA students are joint winners - Kai Hockley and Jessye Opoku-Ware.

You will already know that Kai has been selected by Sir Ben Ainslie to join the development programmes of his youth programmes and has been a team member of the Emirates GBR shore team since January.

Kai's development programme will focus on boosting his experience on foiling boats, which are raced in the famous America’s Cup international competition, with the eventual aim of joining the British teams as a professional sailor.

Here's Mr Holt to explain why Jessye also deserves the award:

"Jessye is the biggest unsung hero of the Scaramouche project. His sailing is exceptional, he has enabled everyone else to have their success and has been the consistent factor holding the team together. None of the success of his team mates would have happened without Jessye."

Well done, both of you!
